Ticker Dept. concept case study

MOP

FROM TICKER TO WORLD.

MOP / 01

A TICKER ISN'T A CHARACTER.

$MOP began with a name and a simple idea: a tiny creature who cleans up messes he didn't make.

Ticker Dept. turned that idea into a character, a visual identity, a brand world and a system built to live across content, merchandise and culture.

MOP / ANOTHER MESS.

MOP / 02

FIRST, FIND THE CHARACTER.

Before colors, logos or merchandise, we search for the silhouette.

Nine directions. One idea. Different proportions, posture and personality.

01 / SILHOUETTE STUDIES

FIRST READ: MOP. SECOND READ: CREATURE.

MOP / 03

THEN WE REMOVE WHAT DOESN'T BELONG.

The strongest character wasn't the cutest one.

It was the one whose posture told the story before his face did.

03 / CANONICAL CONVERGENCE

THE DRAG IS THE ATTITUDE.

LESS FACE. MORE CHARACTER.

CLEANS UP MESSES HE DIDN'T MAKE.

MOP / 04

A CHARACTER NEEDS RULES.

A recognizable character has to survive more than one image.

We define the proportions, silhouette, construction, movement and details that make MOP MOP—so the character can remain consistent across illustration, animation, plush, merchandise and future collaborators.

04 / CANONICAL MASTER

EYESTiny. Buried behind the strands.

STRANDSThe body itself. Never fur.

DRAGAlways slightly heavier on one side.

MOVEMENTFeet first. Strands follow. Drag arrives last.

MOP / 05

THE CHARACTER IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

The same character can belong to very different worlds.

We explore those worlds before choosing one—because color, typography, environments, merchandise and language determine what the character can become.

01 / BRAND WORLD EXPLORATION

AFTER HOURSThe physical world.

CLEAN FREAKThe graphic energy.

FILTH CLUBThe cultural edge.

WE DIDN'T CHOOSE ONE.

WE BUILT THE RIGHT ONE FROM ALL THREE.

MOP / 06

NOW IT BECOMES A BRAND.

We combined the fluorescent loneliness of After Hours with the consumer energy of Clean Freak—while keeping MOP exactly who he was.

LOUD WORLD.
QUIET CHARACTER.

02 / BRAND SYSTEM

The system has to work even when the character isn't in the room.

03 / IDENTITY MASTER

$MOP / AQUA / DEEP NAVY / WIPE DEVICE / ANOTHER MESS.

MOP / 07

FROM TICKER TO WORLD.

$MOP started as a ticker.

It left with a character people could recognize, a world it could inhabit, and a system built to grow.
